MMA fans got an exciting knockout in the UFC’s debut on Fox, as the promotion’s heavyweight title switched hands. Here are the results of the “UFC on Fox 1” fight card, held on Nov. 12, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA.
Junior Dos Santos defeats Cain Velasquez
After a very brief feeling out period, Junior caught Velasquez with a big overhand right, sending the champion to the canvas. Junior followed up with some sharp ground-and-pound, bringing an end to the UFC’s first fight on Fox in 64 seconds.
Benson Henderson defeats Clay Guida
Definitely the most entertaining bout on the “UFC on Fox 1” card ; there wasn’t a dull moment when these two MMA fighters met inside the Octagon. Henderson did a really good job of stuffing Guida’s takedowns, and that was the difference maker in the fight. Guida didn’t go out quietly though, he kept up the incredible pace he’s known for throughout the bout, almost finishing the fight with a guillotine choke in the final round. Henderson managed to survive Guida’s last minute attempt, walking away with the unanimous decision. With the win, Henderson has earned a shot at lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, and UFC fans will be in for a treat when they collide in 2012.
Dustin Poirier defeats Pablo Garza
Poirier took control early in the fight, landing a few decent shots before taking Garza down and working in some ground and pound. After battering Garza some more in the second round, Poirier eventually secured the Brabo choke, earning his third straight win inside the Octagon.
Ricardo Lamas defeats Cub Swanson
Swanson looked good in the opening round, but he didn’t look as sharp in the second. Lamas survived a tight guillotine choke early in the bout, and he finished the fight with an arm-triangle in the second frame.
DaMarques Johnson defeats Clay Harvison (KO, round one)
Darren Uyenoyama defeats Norifumi Yamamoto (unanimous decision)
Robert Peralta defeats Mackens Semerzier (TKO, round three)
Alex Caceres defeats Cole Escovedo (unanimous decision)
Mike Pierce defeats Paul Bradley (split decision)
Aaron Rosa defeats Matt Lucas (majority decision)
