UFC on Fox 8 Predictions

Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson will defend the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s flyweight title time for the second when he headlines the UFC on Fox 8 fight card with John Moraga. The event is set for July 27, at Key Arena in Seattle, Wash.

Here are my predictions for the entire UFC on Fox 8 card:

Demetrious Johnson vs. John Moraga

Johnson (17-2-1, 6 submissions) passed a tough test during his last outing against John Dodson, pushing through a few tough moments on his way to the unanimous decision. Moraga (13-1-0, 6 submissions) has also crossed paths with Dodson in the past, but it was “The Magician” who emerged victorious, handing Moraga his first — and only — loss as a professional MMA fighter back in 2010.

Moraga has piled up seven straight wins since then, but he might be in over his head against Johnson. Getting past Demetrious’ amazing speed, footwork, and striking technique is no easy task, and it’ll probably be too much for Moraga.

Prediction: Johnson wins via decision.

Rory MacDonald vs. Jake Ellenberger

MacDonald (14-1-0, 6 KOs) is one of the most promising rising stars in the UFC’s welterweight division, but he’ll have his hands full when he squares up against Ellenberger (29-6-0, 18 KOs). Jake should have the speed advantage during their UFC on Fox 8 tilt, and that combined with his well-documented knockout power, solid wrestling, and ever improving boxing should be the difference maker.

Prediction: Jake Ellenberger wins via TKO.

Robbie Lawler vs. Bobby Voelker

Lawler (20-9-0, 17 KOs) made a strong statement during his return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, defeating perennial welterweight contender Josh Koscheck via first round TKO. Voelker (24-9-0, 15 KOs) is coming off a controversial unanimous decision loss to Patrick Cote, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s brass didn’t do him any favors by matching up with Lawler at UFC on Fox 8. Robbie should be able to control where the fight takes place with his wrestling, which means his left hand will eventually find Voelker’s chin.

Prediction: Lawler wins via KO.

Liz Carmouche vs. Jessica Andrade

“Girl-Rilla” fell short during her last outing against Ronda Rousey, becoming the seventh victim to succumb to the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s women’s bantamweight champion via first round armbar. Liz (8-3-0, 5 KOs) should fare better against Andrade (9-2-0, 5 submissions) at UFC on Fox 8. Besides being the bigger, stronger competitor, Liz will also have the advantage in the striking and wrestling departments, making this her fight to lose.

Prediction: Liz Carmouche wins via TKO.
