UFC veteran Robbie Lawler.

MMA fans will be for an entertaining treat at UFC on Fox 12 when Matt Brown and Robbie Lawler square off in a fight that could very well lead to a title shot for either man. In the co-main event of the July 19 card, Anthony Johnson will look to improve to 2-0 since his return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship when he takes on Antonio Nogueira at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif.

Here are my UFC on Fox 12 predictions:

Robbie Lawler vs. Matt Brown

Both men are relentless brawlers, so it’s safe to say a majority of this bout will be spent standing up. Brown (19-11-0, 12 KOs) is on a seven-fight win streak, and Lawler (23-10-0, 19 KOs) has been just as impressive since his return to the Octagon, racking up a four wins against top welterweights, losing only to current champion Johny Hendricks in what was an extremely close five-rounder.

Lawler is the more powerful puncher, but Matt tends to be more accurate with his strikes. Lawler’s counter punching ability has led him to many victories, but that might not be enough to deal with Brown’s forward pressure. This is as even as a fight gets on paper, and I expect it to live up to the hype. Hard picking against either guy, but I’m leaning towards Brown and his relentless spirit.

Prediction: Matt Brown wins via TKO.

Anthony Johnson vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

Johnson (17-4-0, 11 KOs) made a strong statement during his return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, pulling off the upset against Phil Davis. Nogueira (21-5-0, 6 KOs) on the other hand is coming off a long layoff, but he does have consecutive wins heading into UFC on Fox 12.

Johnson had no problems shrugging off Davis’ takedown attempts during his last fight, so it’s hard to see the Brazilian having much success getting him grounded. That means Nogueira will have to stand and bang with “Rumble” for 15 minutes, a scary proposition for anyone in the UFC’s light-heavyweight division.

Prediction: Johnson wins via KO.
