A duo of fascinating UFC “Fight Night” headliners were announced over the last 24 hours.
UFC Fight Night Manila will take place on May 16th, and will be the first show at this destination in the Philippines. In the main event, Frankie Edgar and Urijah Faber are sure to go toe-to-toe in a battle of elite Featherweights.
Edgar, a former Lightweight titlist, has put together three victories in a row since his 2012-13 slump which saw him go 0-3 in hard-fought title bouts against Jose Aldo, at Lightweight and Benson Henderson, at the former weight class in which he had conquered, Featherweight.
Edgar is 33-years-old, and if he is to make another charge at a title, he needs to break through to such an opportunity in the immediate future. The same goes for “The California Kid”, 35, who has 39 fights (32 wins) to his name. Faber is 0-3 in UFC title fights, but has positioned himself on the brink of a title shot soon after he’s suffered each loss, with an average of three wins for each UFC defeat.
He has yet to achieve the same level of success he had as a WEC champion, and he’ll need to do so soon if he wishes to keep those title hopes alive on the sport’s highest platform.
It was also recently announced that Daniel Cormier and Ryan Bader will go head-to-head in a bout that pits two readied Middleweights atop UFC Fight Night in New Orleans.
This one takes place on June 6th, as Cormier looks to rebound from a grueling loss to Jon Jones, and Bader aims to string together his fifth straight win since a September 2013 knockout loss to Glover Teixeira. Both fighters are suffocating on the ground but also known for having formidable if the fight remains off the mat.
The undercards for both of these shows are in a bit of a blur, but it is known that both of these events will be shown live on Fox Sports 1 in the United States. More information should surface as we move closer to the Spring.
