Get ready for an entertaining heavyweight showdown when the Ultimate Fighting Championship heads to Adelaide, Australia for the UFC Fight Night 65 card. The event will be headlined by heavyweight heavy hitters Mark Hunt and Stipe Miocic who are both looking to get back on the road to title contention.
Here are my UFC Fight Night 65 Predictions:
Stipe Miocic vs. Mark Hunt
Mark Hunt (10-9-1, 7 KOs) enjoyed some success during the first round of his interim title shot against Fabricio Werdum, but he ran into a flying knee that instantaneously turned things around. Miocic (12-2-0, 8 KOs) also put on a valiant effort during his last outing against Junior dos Santos, but it wasn’t enough to get him past the former champion.
Both men will obviously be looking to get back to the winning side of things with a win at UFC Fight Night 65.
A majority of this contest will likely be spent standing up, and both men are competent in that area. Miocic is a bit smoother with his techniques and defense though, while Hunt is the more heavy-handed fighter.
Even though Miocic prefers to stand and box, he’s also a competent wrestler, so he should be able to score points — and wear Hunt down — with takedowns if a close fight breaks out.
That tilts things in Miocic’s favor heading into this one.
Prediction: Stipe Miocic wins via TKO.
Brad Tavares vs. Robert Whittaker
Whittaker (13-4-0, 6 KOs) looked awesome during his return to the middleweight division, knocking out Clint Hester during the second round of their encounter. He’ll be in for an even stiffer test when he takes on Brad Tavares (13-3-0, 4 KOs).
Both men are very comfortable trading shots with their opponents, with solid grappling skills to complement their striking. This is certainly a fight that can go either way given how evenly matched these fighters are, but Whittaker’s crisp striking technique, power, smooth defense, and home-Octagon advantage should lead him to another victory.
Prediction: Robert Whittaker wins via decision.
