UFC Fight Night 62 Predictions

The Ultimate Fighting Championship will head to Brazil once again for the UFC Fight Night 62 card. The event is set for March 21 at the Ginásio do Maracanãzinho in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the headliner features Brazilian BJJ ace Demian Maia and rising star Ryan LaFlare.

Here are my UFC Fight Night 62 predictions:

Demian Maia vs. Ryan LaFlare

LaFlare (11-0-0, 4 KOs) will look to keep his undefeated record intact when he takes on Maia (19-6-0, 9 submissions) in hostile territory. LaFlare is a well-rounded rising star, with impressive striking skills and competent grappling skills. Without a doubt, he should have the advantage in the striking department when these two welterweights collide.

That doesn’t mean LaFlare is in for an easy night. Sure, Maia hasn’t been particularly impressive during his last two outings, but he’s only lost to legitimate contenders since his drop to the 170-pound division. LaFlare’s takedown defense is decent, not exceptional, and Maia should be able to drag him to the ground a few times during their tilt.

It the Demian Maia that ragged-dolled Jon Fitch and almost crushed Rick Story cranium shows up, LaFlare “0” is in serious jeopardy as he’ll likely get a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu lesson at UFC Fight Night 62.

Prediction: Demian Maia wins via submission.

Erick Silva vs. Josh Koscheck

Thing didn’t exactly go as planned during Josh Koscheck’s return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship after a long hiatus, but he’s bouncing right back three weeks after to take on Erick. Silva is coming off an impressive performance against Mike Rhodes, but overall, he has been rather inconsistent in his recent outing. Things have been even worse for Koscheck who has dropped his last four fights, losing three via stoppage.

Given his wrestling pedigree, Koscheck is more than capable of grounding Silva and edging out a decision if he brings his A-game, but he doesn’t seem to have much fight in him these days. Silva on the other hand is highly motivated to reestablish himself as a legit prospect, and he’ll likely put on a show to the delight of Brazilian fans.

Prediction: Erick Silva wins via TKO.
