UFC Fight Night 48 Predictions

The Ultimate Fighting Championship will return to Macau, China on Aug. 23 for the UFC Fight Night 48 fight card. The event will be headlined by a middleweight tilt featuring Cung Le and Michael Bisping, while Tyron Woodley takes on Dong Hyun Kim in the co-main event.

Here are my UFC Fight Night 48 predictions:

Cung Le vs. Michael Bisping

Le (9-2-0, 8 KOs) headlined the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s first card in China with Rich Franklin, scoring a vicious knockout victory early in the contest. Bisping (24-6-0, 14 KOs) on the other hand wasn’t particularly impressive during his last outing, which was over a year ago, losing a unanimous decision to Tim Kennedy after getting out grappled for 15 minutes.

He won’t have to worry much about defending takedowns during his scheduled five-rounder against Le.

Both men are competent strikers, but Le appears to have the edge on paper. He’s a lot more accurate with his strikes, with a much more diverse arsenal. Le should also be able to out grapple Bisping, if he decides to, giving him multiple ways to win the fight.

Bisping’s striking prowess should make it an entertaining standup battle, but it’s hard to see him emerging victorious when it’s all said and done.

Prediction: Le wins via TKO.

Tyron Woodley vs. Dong Hyun Kim

Woodley (13-3-0, 5 KOs) wasn’t able to get much done during his last outing against Rory MacDonald, but he’ll get a chance to redeem himself when he squares off against Kim (19-2-1, 8 KOs) at UFC Fight Night 48. Kim is coming in with a five-fight win streak, but Woodley has all the tools needed to bring all that to an end.

Woodley should have the advantage standing up, and it’s hard to see Kim nullifying that with his grappling like he normally does given T-Wood’s wrestling pedigree, strength, and athleticism. Kim, a Korean, will have some sort of home-cage advantage when these two step inside the Octagon, but that likely won’t be enough to nullify the fact Woodley is the better MMA fighter.

Prediction: Woodley wins via KO.
