UFC lightweight veteran Ross Pearson.

A legitimate contender in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s light-heavyweight division will be established when Ryan Bader and Ovince St. Preux collide at UFC Fight Night 47. The event also features an interesting matchup between hard hitters Ross Pearson and Abel Trujillo. The card is set for Aug. 16 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine.

Here are my UFC Fight Night 47 predictions:

Ryan Bader vs. Ovince St. Preux

Hard to tell who will emerge victorious when these two square off inside the Octagon. Bader (17-4-0, 6 KOs) is the more decorated grappler, but OSP is competent on the ground as well. St. Preux (16-5-0, 7 KOs) is also the more athletic between the two MMA fighters, and he’s certainly the more explosive striker.

Bader’s best bet would be to grind his way to victory like he did during his last fight against Rafael Cavalcante, but consistently taking a strong fighter like OSP down won’t be an easy feat, especially during the latter rounds when both men are covered in sweat. Without a doubt, this is the biggest test OSP has faced during his mixed martial arts career, but I expect him to pass in flying colors.

Prediction: OSP wins via TKO.

Ross Pearson vs. Abel Trujillo

The odds of this fight going the distance are pretty slim. Both men love to stand and trade which should lead to fireworks at UFC Fight Night 47. Neither man has a significant advantage in the striking or grappling department, but Trujillo (12-5-0, 5 KOs) seems to be the stronger, faster competitor. His chin has been rock solid during his stint in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, so an all out brawl is most likely to play out in his favor.

Prediction: Trujillo wins via TKO.

Gray Maynard vs. Fabrício Camões

Maynard (11-3-1, 2 KOs) has had his share of struggles lately, losing three of his last four fights, and he’ll need an impressive victory at UFC Fight Night 47 to prove he’s still a legitimate threat at 155 pounds. Fortunately for him, the promotion’s matchmakers couldn’t have given him a better opponent. Camoes (14-8-1, 7 submissions) has had his share of losses lately as well, dropping his last two contests, and the BJJ specialist’s takedown defense is nothing special. Maynard should also have the edge in the striking department. That means “The Bully” shouldn’t have any problems bullying Camoes around when the two collide inside the Octagon.

Prediction: Maynard wins via TKO.
