MMA fans should be in for a rare treat when Matt Brown squares up against Erick Silva at UFC Fight Night 40. The two will headline the May 10 card at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Here are my UFC Fight Night 40 predictions:
Matt Brown vs. Erick Silva
Ever since a 2011 loss to Seth Baczynski, Brown (18-11-0, 11 KOs) has been on a tear inside the Octagon, racking up six consecutive victories, five via some form of knockout.
Silva (16-4-0, 9 submissions) on the other hand has had his share of struggles inside the cage lately, losing two of his last four fights.
On paper, Silva should have an advantage in the striking and grappling departments, but I just can’t go against Brown right now. The immortal always seems to find a way to put opponents away, so I expect him to add another impressive knockout to his resume at UFC Fight Night 40, after surviving some tough moments.
Prediction: Browne wins via KO.
Costas Philippou vs. Lorenz Larkin
These two middleweights might be fighting for their jobs at UFC Fight Night 40, with both losing two of their last three fights.
Philippou (12-4-0, 6 KOs) has racked up wins against solid middleweights in the UFC, and Larkin (14-2-0, 8 KOs) is no slouch either. It’s an even fight on paper, but at this point in their MMA careers, Larkin seems to have more pop in his strikes, and he’ll also have a slight edge grappling wise.
Prediction: Larkin wins via decision.
