UFC 142 turned out to be an entertaining MMA event, with four of the five main card fights getting stopped in the first round. Here are the results of the UFC 142 fight card held on Jan. 14, at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil:

Jose Aldo defeats Chad Mendes

Aldo had his best performance in the UFC against Chad Mendes, softening him with some leg kicks and stuffing a few takedown attempts. Mendes eventually managed to secure a rear waist lock against the cage, but Aldo turned around and planted a knee on the challengers’ chin. Aldo followed up with a few more punches, forcing referee Mario Yamasaki to stop the fight.

Vitor Belfort defeats Anthony Johnson

Both men came out swinging at UFC 142, with Johnson getting the better of the earlier exchanges. A wild Johnson high kick left him on his knees, and Belfort jumped all over him, taking his back, working some ground-and-pound, and finishing with a rear-naked choke.

Rousimar Palhares defeats Mike Massenzio

Palhares didn’t waste any time against Massenzio, pulling guard and securing a heel hook one minute into the fight.

Carlo Prater defeats Erick Silva

Silva looked awesome in his second UFC fight, sending Prater to the ground with a knee to the body. Silva followed up with some ground-and-pound, forcing referee Mario Yamasaki to stop the action, 29 seconds into the bout. Unfortunately for Silva, Yamasaki disqualified him for hitting Prater in the back of the head, even though the replay clearly showed a majority of his finishing strikes were to the side of the head.

Edson Barboza defeats Terry Etim

Barboza kept his undefeated record intact at UFC 142, knocking Etim out with a spinning back kick in the final round. Etim wisely tried to get the fight to the ground a few times, but Barboza wasn’t having any part of it.

Undercard:

Thiago Tavares defeats Sam Stout (unanimous decision)

Gabriel Gonzaga defeats Edinaldo Oliveira (rear-naked choke, round one)

Yuri Alcantara defeats Michihiro Omigawa (unanimous decision)

Mike Pyle defeats Ricardo Funch (TKO, round one)

Felipe Arantes defeats Antonio Carvalho (unanimous decision)
