The Ultimate Fighting Championship will close out the month with UFC 139, and the five round main event between Dan Henderson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua should be something to remember. Here are my predictions for the UFC 139 fight card, set for Nov. 19, at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA.
Dan Henderson versus Mauricio Rua
Henderson will have his hands full in his return to the Octagon. Rua was impressive in his last fight against Forrest Griffin at UFC 134, knocking out the fellow former champion in the first round. Henderson is coming off a decent performance as well, defeating MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko several months ago. Definitely a tough MMA fight to call, but I think Rua’s skills and youthfulness will be too much for the 41 year old Henderson. Rua wins by decision.
Cung Le versus Wanderlei Silva
A former Strikeforce middleweight champion, Le will make his Octagon debut against Wanderlei Silva at UFC 139. Even at 39, Le should be able to hold his own inside the Octagon and I just can’t see Wanderlei dealing with his accurate barrage of kicks. Le wins by TKO.
Urijah Faber versus Brian Bowles
This should be a very entertaining battle featuring two top contenders in the UFC’s bantamweight division. Faber went the distance with current champion Dominick Cruz at UFC 132, and he’ll be in for another tough battle against Bowles. In the end, Faber is the more complete MMA fighter and he should be able to walk away with the decision.
Martin Kampmann versus Rick Story
This is a tough matchup for Story who is coming off a loss to Charlie Brenneman at “UFC Live 4.” Getting Kampmann to the ground won’t be easy, and a majority of the fight will probably be spent standing. Kampmann is the better striker, and he’ll be eager to get out of his current slump. Kampmann wins by decision.
Stephan Bonnar versus Kyle Kingsbury
MMA fans will get to find out if Kingsbury is for real when he takes on Bonner at UFC 139. I personally think Kingsbury is a legit light-heavyweight, and I expect him to pass the test with flying colors. Kingsbury wins by decision.
