MMA fans will no longer get to see current welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre take on Carlos Condit at UFC 137, but they’ll certainly get to see some other great fights. Here are my predictions for the UFC 137 fight card scheduled for Oct. 29, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
BJ Penn versus Nick Diaz
Penn and Diaz have similar fighting styles, and they’re both hungry for a shot at the UFC’s welterweight title. BJ Penn has definitely faced tougher MMA fighters over the years, and his experience should help him get past Diaz. Penn wins by TKO.
Matt Mitrione versus Cheick Kongo
Mitrione has been impressive in his short time as an MMA fighter, putting together a 5-0 record. Kongo is certainly a notch above anyone Mitrione has ever faced in his MMA career, and I’m not sure he’s ready for Kongo’s world-class kickboxing. It should be an interesting three round affair, but I expect Kongo to walk away with the win.
Roy Nelson versus Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic
Both MMA fighters desperately need wins when the two meet inside the Octagon at UFC 137. Luckily for Nelson, he matches up well against “Cro Cop,” and he shouldn’t have any problems imposing his will on the Croatian. Nelson wins by TKO.
Jeff Curran versus Scott Jorgensen
Jorgensen will be in for a tough test when he takes on Curran at UFC 137. Curran is the more experienced MMA fighter, but Jorgensen has certainly been on a roll, winning six of his last seven fights. Jorgensen wins by decision.
Hatsu Hioki versus George Roop
Hioki will make his UFC debut against Roop, and he’ll certainly be in for a fight when the two MMA fighters meet on Oct. 29. Hioki is the more experienced fighter and his experience should help him win the MMA fight. Hioki wins by submission.
