Top five middleweights in MMA

The middleweight division is home to the greatest MMA fighter of our time. Even though it isn’t necessarily the deepest weight-class in MMA, the middleweight division definitely has its share of stars and entertaining personalities. Here are the top five middleweight fighters in MMA right now.

1. Anderson Silva

Silva isn’t only the best Mixed Martial Arts fighter in the middleweight division; he is also MMA’s pound-for-pound king. Silva now has the longest win streak in UFC history at 15 wins, and it doesn’t look like he plans on stopping anytime soon.

2. Vitor Belfort

Belfort was impressive in his last performance, defeating Yoshihiro Akiyama with ease at UFC 133. Belfort has won six of his last seven MMA fights, and he’ll like to avenge his UFC 126 loss to Anderson Silva. Vitor performed poorly against Silva at UFC 126, getting knocked out two minutes into the fight.

3. Mark Munoz

Munoz has been impressive lately, defeating tough MMA fighters like Aaron Simpson, CB Dollaway, and Damian Maia in his last three fights. Munoz’ future in the UFC looks bright, and MMA fans can expect to see a lot of him in the future.

4. Ronaldo Souza

Souza’s phenomenal Brazilian Jiu Jitsu helped the Brazilian MMA fighter rise through the middleweight rankings. Souza’s striking still has a long way to go, but his BJJ is strong enough to help him get past most middleweights. Souza is yet to fight the very best combatants in the division, but the 31 year old MMA fighter should be up to the task when the time comes.

5. Chael Sonnen

Sonnen MMA’s record doesn’t make him a top five fighter, but his four and a half round domination of Anderson Silva at UFC 117 does. Sonnen’s chances are slim in the event of a rematch against the current UFC middleweight champion, but the build up to the fight should be very entertaining.
