Top 5 Featherweights in the UFC Right Now

The featherweight division is still relatively new in the UFC, but it’s already shaping up to be a competitive weight-class. Here are the top 5 fighters in the UFC’s featherweight division right now:

1. Jose Aldo

Aldo is the first and only featherweight champion in UFC history, and I expect him to continue dominating the division. He’s clearly the best striker at 145, and he’s no slouch on the ground either. Aldo’s takedown defense is pretty solid as well, making him one of the most well-rounded fighters in the UFC.

2. Chan Sung Jung

Probably a little bit of a surprise to some, but “The Korean Zombie” has been impressive lately. Jung displayed his instant knockout power against Mark Hominick, and he showed us a little bit of everything in his last fight against Dustin Poirier. At only 25 years-old, Jung’s future in the promotion looks bright, and I can’t wait to see him challenge Aldo for the featherweight title.

3. Hatsu Hioki

Hioki is another impressive Japanese fighter, with a 26-4-2 professional MMA record. He’s currently 2-0 in the UFC, but I’d like to see him face some top of the food chain fighters.

4. Chad Mendes

Mendes suffered his first loss in his last outing against Aldo, but I’m sure he’ll comeback even stronger. His wrestling has taken him to the top of the featherweight division, but he’ll need to diversify his strikes in order to reach the championship level.

5. Charles Oliveira

Sure he’s only had two fights in the featherweight division, but he really impressed me with his last performance against Jonathan Brookins. At only 22 years old (with a significant reach advantage against most 145ers), Oliveira is the future of the featherweight division, and I expect him to continue climbing up the rankings.

Other fighters that almost made the list include Erik Koch, Dustin Poirier, and Dennis Siver.
