UFC on Fox 16 Predictions, picks, and breakdowns for the July 25 T.J. Dillashaw vs. Renan Barão 2 headlined card.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s former bantamweight champion, Renan Barão, will get his first chance to reclaim the title he sported for years when he takes on T.J. Dillashaw at UFC on Fox 16. The event is set for July 25 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Here are my UFC on Fox 16 Predictions:
T.J. Dillashaw vs. Renan Barão (bantamweight title fight)
Dillashaw (11-2-0, 5 KOs) pulled off one of the biggest upsets in 2014 the last time these two shared an Octagon, bringing the contest to a close via TKO during the fifth round. It was a fight T.J dominated from start to finish, dropping Barão (33-2-0, 15 submissions) early in the contest, landing the crisper, sharper strikes.
Oh yeah, almost forgot the awesome footwork Dillashaw displayed during the fight.
For Barão, it was his first loss in the UFC (second loss as a pro MMA fighter) and it might just signify the end of his prime.
Heck, he didn’t even look like he wanted a rematch after the loss to Dillashaw.
The Brazilian wasn’t particularly impressive during his next fight against Mitch Gagnon, and he didn’t look as confident as usual. Still, he manage to put Gagnon away during the third round, and he’s likely been working hard to make the changes necessary to deal with a diverse striker like T.J, who also happens to be a very good wrestler.
Barão is more than capable of finishing Dillashaw if he makes a single mistake during their five rounder, but given the level of striking technique T.J. has displayed since his loss to Raphael Assunção, this is certainly his fight to lose.
Prediction: T.J. Dillashaw wins via TKO.
Miesha Tate vs. Jessica Eye
Tate (16-5-0, 6 submissions) will look for her fourth consecutive win when she takes on Eye (11-2-0, 3 KOs) at UFC on Fox 16. Eye on the other hand will be looking to improve her record in the Ultimate Fighting Championship to 2-2. Eye looked pretty impressive during her last outing, knocking out Leslie Smith during the second round of their showdown.
Tate will have a slight edge grappling wise heading into this contest, but the striking exchanges between the two should be somewhat even. The striking power edge goes to Eye though, and, despite the fact Tate is arguably the toughest female in the UFC, Jessica’s tenacity should lead her to victory here.
Prediction: Jessica Eye wins via TKO.
