Strikeforce Overeem vs. Werdum predictions

The Strikeforce event scheduled for June 18 should be an entertaining night of MMA fights. The Main event will feature a showdown between the current Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, and the man that handed MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko his first loss in a decade, Fabricio Werdum. Here are my predictions for the Strikeforce ‘Overeem vs. Werdum’ MMA fight card.

Alistair Overeem versus Fabricio Werdum

In his last nine fights, no MMA fighter has been able to get past the first round against Overeem. It would be suicidal for Werdum to even try to stand with Overeem, and there is no question his plan will be to get the MMA fight to the ground. Even if he is successful, Overeem’s explosiveness and devastating power will be too much for Werdum to handle. Overeem wins by KO.

Josh Barnett versus Brett Rogers

Tough MMA fight to call, Rogers has the standup advantage, while Barnett is the better grappler. Given the fact that Roger’s only losses are to two of the best heavyweights in MMA, I have to go with him. Rogers wins by decision.

K.J. Noons versus Jorge Masvidal

Personally, I feel KJ Noons is one of the most underrated fighters in MMA. KJ’s striking is superb, and his wrestling ability isn’t far behind. Noons shouldn’t have any problems taking care of Masvidal as he works his way towards another title shot.

Daniel Cormier versus Jeff Monson

Cormier will undergo the toughest test of his career when he faces Jeff Monson on June 18. At the end of the day, Monson’s experience will be too much for Cormier to handle. Monson wins by decision.

Chad Griggs versus Valentijn Overeem

Valentijn has a ton of experience in MMA fighting all over the world, but Griggs has the tools to get past him. Griggs wins by TKO.
