The main event of the Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley MMA fight card was undoubtedly the best full contact match so far this year. In the Strikeforce promotion’s first event since becoming part of the Zuffa family, they delivered entertaining MMA fights that lefts fans feeling satisfied when the show was over.
Nick Diaz defeats Paul Daley
If you missed this MMA fight, you definitely want to catch a rerun. Diaz and Daley came out ready to brawl, sending vicious haymakers towards one another. Daley dropped Diaz early in the MMA fight and followed up with some extra aggressive ground and pound. Diaz takes the punishment like a true champion and quickly gets back to his feet. Diaz quickly returned the favor, landing some serious punches that wobble Daley, forcing him to go for a takedown. Diaz gets up to his feet and both MMA fighters trade punches. Daley catches Diaz again, following up with some more brutal blows. Diaz takes the punishment like a champ, and gets back to his feet. Diaz catches Daley with a hook and this time finishes with some serious ground and pound of his own. The MMA fight is stopped with just seconds left in the first round and Diaz keeps his belt.
Gilbert Melendez defeats Tatsuya Kawajiri
Both MMA fighters land vicious blows before Melendez sends the fight to the ground. Melendez punishes his opponent a bit, before Kawajiri can get back to his feet. Melendez lands another combination that sends Kawajiri to the ground. The Strikeforce lightweight champ takes Kawajiri’s back and finishes him with some hard elbows.
Gegard Mousasi draws Keith Jardine
Once again, Mousasi is unable to deliver on the big stage in the United States. Mousasi struggled in the first round against the slumping Jardine who took the MMA fight on short notice. Mousasi also lost a point in the first round due to an illegal upkick. Mousasi was better in the latter rounds, but still not impressive enough to convince the judges. Two judges scored the fight 28-28, while the third scored the fight 29-27.
Shinya Aoki defeats Lyle Beerbohm
Beerbohm tried to wrap Aoki up, but ended up getting tripped. Aoki transitioned to his back and finished him off with a choke in the very first round.
Robert Peralta defeats Hiroyuki Takaya (split decision)
