The Strikeforce MMA fight event featuring Nick Diaz and Paul Daley will be held at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California. The April 9 event will be the first Strikeforce event since the MMA promotion’s acquisition by Zuffa. This MMA fight event also features another title match, between current Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez and top contender Tatsuya Kawajiri. Here are my predictions for the Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley MMA fight event.
Nick Diaz versus Paul Daley
This is a good MMA matchup that should live up to the hype behind it. I have to give the standup advantage to Daley, with his devastating knockout power and fast limbs. Diaz is a solid striker as well, and should be able to set takedowns up with his striking. On the ground, Diaz has the clear advantage, and will eventually catch Daley in a submission. Diaz wins by submission.
Gilbert Melendez versus Tatsuya Kawajiri
Melendez shouldn’t have any problems defending his belt against Kawajiri at the Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley MMA fight event. Melendez will be able to take the fight to the ground and grind out Kawajiri. The punishment will eventually be too much and the referee will be forced to stop the fight. Melendez wins by TKO.
Shinya Aoki versus Lyle Beerbohm
Coming off the first loss in his MMA career, Beerbohm will have a hard time trying to avoid his second straight defeat. Aoki is hungry for another title shot, winning his last three MMA fights. Aoki is more experienced than Beerbohm and should have no problem outpointing him for three straight rounds. Aoki wins by decision.
Gegard Mousasi versus Keith Jardine
MMA veteran Keith Jardine will have another chance to perform under the Zuffa banner at the Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley MMA event. With Jardine taking the fight on just one-week’s notice, I’m not sure he’ll be ready come match time. Mousasi should be able to outwork Jardine and eventually finish the fight. Mousasi wins by TKO.
