Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto returned to MMA from a three-year hiatus against talented Bantamweight upstart, Roman Salazar, on the UFC 184 prelims.
Yamamoto looked fresh in round one, landing good head strikes and actively dipping and dodging to avoid all but Salazar’s quick leg kicks and body shots.
The Japanese fighter’s flighty style and quick reflexes made a difference, even at age 37. He had won the first round, and was well on his way through the second.
Unfortunately, the fight ended at 2:37 of round two due to an eye poke. Salazar declared himself unable to continue after being given a long stretch to recover from a nasty pome from the extended hand of Yamamoto.
It was the third eye poke of the fight of the fight; second for Salazar. Yamamoto’s return ends inconclusively due to this unfortunate incident. The bout was ruled a no contest, but the Japanese star showed he had plenty left in this comeback attempt.
