Roan Carneiro subs Mark Munoz early in round 1

Filipino Middleweight contender Mark Munoz struggled in his weight cut, and officially scaled 186lbs on his final attempt at yesterday’s weigh-in, one pound above the traditional UFC limit.

Roan Carneiro, an MMA veteran from Brazil, was looking to take advantage of this, and, in turn, jumpstart his return to the octagon after a long run elsewhere.

He did just that.

The Filipino couldn’t get his striking going, and allowed a swift takedown by Carneiro in the first round. After some thirty seconds, Carneiro would squeeze into back position, and lock in a rear-naked choke submission that put Munoz to sleep. He didn’t have a word about it, and didn’t tap before falling unconscious on the mat.

Roan Carneiro is back in the UFC after six years out, and comes away with a submission over the #13 ranked Middleweight. A real impression was left in the final Fox Sports 1 prelim of the night.
