Predictions, picks, and commentary for the April 18 Lyoto Machida vs. Luke Rockhold headlined UFC on Fox 15 fight card.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship will return to network TV for the UFC on Fox 15 card. It’s certainly one of the better cards that will take place in April as the event is filled with lots of intriguing matchups from top to bottom. The bouts will be held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Here are my UFC on Fox 15 predictions:
Lyoto Machida vs. Luke Rockhold
Rockhold (13-2-0, 8 submissions) will look to take a giant step towards getting his first title shot in the Ultimate Fighting Championship when he takes on Machida (22-5-0, 9 KOs) on April 18. Besides getting brutally knocked out by Vitor Belfort during his UFC debut, Rockhold has been very impressive inside the Octagon, finishing his next three opponents.
He’ll be in for a step up in competition when he takes on Machida though.
Lyoto is coming off a 61 second knockout victory against C.B. Dollaway, and he seems to have all the tools needed to give Rockhold problems. Rockhold is a solid striker, but Machida should get the better of the striking exchanges. Machida’s takedown defense is good enough to force a standup battle regardless of if Rockhold wants to play that game or not, making this his fight to lose.
Prediction: Lyoto Machida wins by knockout.
Cub Swanson vs. Max Holloway
Here another potential “Fight of the Night” bout, featuring two of the top featherweights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Swanson (21-6-0, 8 KOs) is coming off a loss to Frankie Edgar, while Holloway (12-3-0, 5 KOs) has put together a pretty decent streak since his loss to Conor McGregor, racking up five consecutive wins.
This is certainly a fight that can go either way given how well-rounded both men are. Swanson packs more than enough power to put Holloway away if he connects, and he’s faced -- and beaten -- a number of MMA fighters who are a lot more accomplished than Holloway.
However, Holloway’s high volume offense could give Swanson problems if he’s able to find his range early, and he might even be able to sneak in a few takedowns.
Tough fight to call, but I like Holloway’s chances of pulling off the upset here.
Prediction: Max Holloway wins via decision.
