Lateef Kayode Plans to Knock Antonio Tarver Out

Undefeated Lateef Kayode will take on his toughest challenge as a professional boxer, when he faces Antonio Tarver on June 2. Kayode has demonstrated his heavy hands over the years, but he has slowed down a bit in his recent fights, winning his last three via unanimous decision.

The 29 year old Nigerian vows to display his punching against Tarver, and he’s confident he’ll emerge as the new IBO cruiserweight champion when the two meet at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.

“He said bad [things] about me that I don’t have experience,” Kayode said during a press conference. “He said I don’t have experience but he called me to be a sparring partner for Danny Green. So why do you call me to be a sparring partner when you say I don’t have experience?! I’m not going to be a sparring partner. I want to fight you to show the world who is the best between me and you. … This fight is going to be a knockout. He’s going to be knocked down and I’m going to knock him out. I’m going to knock [him] out before the 5th round. He said all this [expletive]. Whatever he likes to say, he can say. Showtime pays him money because of his mouth.”

With only four years under his belt as a professional boxer, Lateef Kayode still has a lot to learn about the sweet science, but he does have the tools needed to dethrone Tarver. He certainly has enough power to hurt Tarver if he catches him, but he doesn’t want to get into a boxing match with the well-tested veteran.

Even though some boxing fans think the 43 year old Antonio Tarver is past his prime, the Orlando native has no plans to retire anytime soon. While he remains focused on his upcoming battle against Kayode, Tarver plans to give the heavyweight division one last shot before finally hanging up his gloves.
