Junior Dos Santos Vs Alistair Overeem Beef Continues

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez, earned a chance to win back his title from Junior dos Santos with his impressive performance against Antonio Silva at UFC 146.

However, “Cigano” would rather face Alistair Overeem – who is currently serving a nine-month suspension for having elevated testosterone levels. And he just might get his wish if the Nevada State Athletic Commission grants “The Demolition Man” a license earlier than expected.

“I sat down with Junior dos Santos yesterday,” Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White told reporters at the ‘UFC on Fox 4’ post-fight press conference. “He said, ‘I have nothing but respect for Cain Velasquez. I like him as a person and as a fighter and he deserves this shot, but I do not want to fight him. … He said, ‘Alistair Overeem is a punk. He’s got a big mouth and he’s been saying lots of bad things about me. I want to knock him out now.'”

Can’t really say I’m surprised dos Santos is eager to get it on with Overeem, considering the fact the latter seems very confident he’ll emerge victorious when they eventually meet. The two were originally set to fight at UFC 146, but Overeem’s failed drug test forced him out of the bout.

“I know he [dos Santos] was very happy that fight didn’t happen, and I know he’s afraid to fight me,” Overeem said during an interview with MMAWeekly.com. “He also knows that I’m the biggest threat out there to him. He knows when he fights me, he’s gonna get it. There’s no escaping from it. … I’m gonna get my hands on him, and when I do, he’s all mine.”

A fight between Overeem and dos Santos probably won’t happen this year, considering the fact NSAC executive director Keith Kizer didn’t seem open to the idea of granting “The Reem” an early licensing hearing.

We’ll probably have to wait until early 2013 before the two square-up inside the Octagon.
