Josesito Lopez Vows to Derail Victor Ortiz – Canelo Alvarez Bout

With a win against Josesito Lopez on June 23, former WBC welterweight champion, Victor Ortiz, will get to face Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on Sept. 15.

However, Lopez isn’t happy with the fact that he won’t get a shot at Canelo, regardless of the outcome of his bout against Ortiz. He plans to play the role of spoiler, when the two meet at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

“I don’t think I can get possibly more motivated [than I already am] but if anything, yeah, it does add a little bit more,” Lopez said during a recent appearance on ‘The Boxing Lab.’ “I’m here to mess all that up. I’m here to mess up the plans for September. You know, there’s a rematch clause so they might as well start planning the rematch with me and Victor Ortiz. … All my focus up until the fight is the fight and the fight only. I don’t make any plans ahead and I find that a little disrespectful.”

Even though it’s easy to understand where Lopez is coming from, he’ll certainly be in for a tough night on Saturday. Ortiz is the bigger, stronger fighter, and I’m not sure Lopez will be able to withstand the type of punishment the former welterweight champion can dish out.

With the possibility of another big-name fight around the corner, Ortiz will be highly motivated, and I can’t see Lopez derailing his plans. Ortiz isn’t bothered by Lopez’ comments, stating he remains focused on the task at hand.

“As far as the whole disrespectful thing, I don’t disrespect anyone,” Ortiz said. “As far as I’m concerned, I’m fighting a great fighter June 23rd, Josesito Lopez, who I’ve been training particularly for and been ignoring everyone possible [in] the media about Canelo. I don’t really care about Canelo right now. … I’m there to take what’s rightfully mine … I know that Josesito’s ready to go, and so am I. That makes two of us, so no disrespect to his camp. But if they want to take it as disrespect, so be it.”
