Floyd Mayweather vs. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has been one the most talked about boxing matchups in recent years, and it appears fans will finally get their wish.
Mayweather (44-0-0, 26 KOs) will square up against Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KOs) the next time he laces up his gloves.
"I chose my opponent for September 14th and it's Canelo Alvarez," Mayweather announced via Twitter. "I'm giving the fans what they want. It will be at the MGM Grand."
Mayweather is coming off a unanimous decision victory against Robert Guerrero. Floyd pretty much handed Guerrero a boxing lesson, frustrating the challenger with his masterful defensive skills.
Canelo on the other hand is coming off a victory against then undefeated Austin Trout, a bout many consider to be his first win against a legitimate 154-pounder.
The timing is perfect, both men are ready to face off, so it's safe to say boxing fans will be in for a rare treat on Sept. 14.
Giving all the accusations of cherry-picking Floyd has faced in the past, he continues to defy his critics by squaring up against all the toughest challengers around.
