Five MMA Fighters the UFC Needs to Sign

The UFC consists of the very best MMA fighters in the world, but there are still a few guys out there the promotion needs to grab. Here are five MMA fighters the UFC needs to add to its roster:

5. Jussier Da Silva

With the UFC’s decision to add a flyweight division, signing Silva seems to be the next logical move. With a professional record of 12-1, Silva is definitely one of the top flyweights in the world, and we all know the UFC is where the best MMA fighters belong.

4. Eddie Alvarez

Alvarez got caught in his last fight against Michael Chandler, but I still feel he’s one of the best lightweights around. Unfortunately for Alvarez, his loss to Chandler diminished his chances of getting into the UFC this year.

3. Daniel Cormier

With UFC number one contender Alistair Overeem out of the Strikeforce heavyweight picture, I personally think Cormier is the toughest fighter left in the division. Cormier remains undefeated in his MMA career, and his first round destruction of Antonio Silva clearly indicates he’s ready for a bump in competition. Zuffa plans to cancel the Strikeforce heavyweight division after the Grand Prix (while giving some fighters the opportunity to fight in the UFC), and I’m sure Cormier will be one of the first guys they sign.

2. Hector Lombard

Lombard has been on a tear since 2006, smashing his way to the Bellator middleweight title. Yes, Lombard’s opponents haven’t been the top guys in the business, but critics said the same thing about Overeem. I’m pretty sure Lombard can hang with the UFC’s top middleweights and it’s about time he starts fighting the very best in the division.

1. Gilbert Melendez

With a record of 22-2, the current Strikeforce lightweight champion certainly deserves a UFC contract. Melendez is good enough to compete with the very best lightweights in the UFC, and I’d love to see him face the winner of the Frankie Edgar vs. Ben Henderson matchup later in the year.
