Clay Guida Plans to Regroup with a Win Against Gray Maynard

MMA veteran Clay Guida was one fight away from securing his first title shot in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, but he ended up running into Ben Henderson. Both men put on a spectacular show at “UFC on Fox 1,” with Henderson emerging victorious.

Fortunately for Guida, he’ll get another shot to move back into title contention when he faces Gray Maynard at “UFC on FX 4,” set for June 22.

Maynard is a 4-1 favorite going into UFC on FX 4, but I think the oddsmakers are underestimating Guida a bit. He matches up well with Maynard. And I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up dominating Maynard when the two meet at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.

Guida understands how big a win against a top ranked fighter like Maynard is, and he plans to bring his A-game at UFC on FX 4. He seems determined to hoist a UFC title before his career is all said and done.

“Training for my fight against Maynard is going great,” Guida said during an interview with Lowkick.com. “I’ve focused a lot more on fixing holes in my wrestling game with my wrestling coach Israel Martinez. We brought in a few D1 wrestlers to push me. I absolutely think that Gray Maynard is at the top of the division with Ben and Frankie [Edgar]. … I also believe that finishing Gray Maynard puts me right back in the mix as a top contender in the lightweight division after coming up short against Ben Henderson. I’ve never been much for predictions, but don’t be surprised to see me get my next UFC victory by TKO over Gray Maynard.”

I’ve always been a fan of Guida’s high-pace style, and I expect him to pull off the upset at UFC on FX 4. With a current line of +300 for Guida, investing in “The Carpenter” isn’t a bad idea.
