WBC light-heavyweight champion, Chad Dawson, is currently set to collide with Andre Ward on Sept. 8, and many expect the fight between the two to be something special. They’re two of the most talented fighters in the world right now, and boxing fans will be in for a rare treat when they collide.
Dawson put on an impressive performance in his last outing, securing the WBC light-heavyweight title with his majority decision against Bernard Hopkins. He plans to put on another impressive performance when he squares up against Ward at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif.
“Andre Ward is a great super middleweight, but I think I’m better,” Dawson said during a recent interview. “I’m just looking forward to going out there and putting on a great show and showing everybody that… I’m taller, stronger… I have every advantage going into this fight. … I’m going out there to display something different. I’m not fighting an older guy, a veteran. I’m fighting a younger guy who’s close to my age. So I think this is going to be a fight that brings everything out of me… it’s going to be a barnburner.”
Andre Ward remains undefeated as a professional boxer, but he’ll be in for the toughest test in his professional career when he faces Chad Dawson. Besides being the bigger fighter – he’ll drop down to the super middleweight division for the bout; Dawson will also enjoy a significant reach advantage which will make things a little more difficult for Ward.
However, Ward is also a technically sound fighter, and the Oakland native will have hometown advantage when the two meet. He’s currently a 3-1 favorite going into the bout, indicating many expect him to emerge victorious on Sept. 8.
When focused, Dawson is a truly gifted boxer, and I expect him to bring his A-game against Ward. As far as I’m concerned, Dawson vs. Ward is a pretty even matchup, and I wouldn’t be surprised if either man emerges victorious.
