MMA veteran Donald Cerrone will meet one of the sport’s up and comers, Charles Oliveira at “UFC Live 5.” Cerrone originally came into “UFC Live 4” as a replacement for John Makdessi, who was originally meant to fight British MMA fighter Paul Taylor.
On July 6, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced Taylor could no longer be a part of “UFC Live 5,” due to injuries of his own. Taylor will now be replaced by the Brazilian MMA fighter who has the potential to rule the lightweight division in the future.
At only 21 year old, Oliveira has already put together an impressive 14-1(1 NC) MMA record. Oliveira was given a tough test in his second UFC fight against “Ultimate Fighter” reality series winner, Efrain Escudero. Oliveira passed the test in flying colors, coming back from an undesirable first round and securing the rear-naked choke in the third.
When you consider the fact that the only loss on Oliveira’s MMA record is to top lightweight fighter Jim Miller, you can truly begin to appreciate what Oliveira has done as such an early age.
While Oliveira is better known for his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, with eight of his 14 wins coming by submission; his ever improving Muay Thai and willingness to strike, sets him apart from other seasoned grapplers.
Replacement fights are usually not as exciting as the original matchup, but UFC matchmakers really did a good job with this one. I expect a very entertaining fight when these two MMA fighters meet inside the Octagon. Cerrone has been impressively lately, winning his last four MMA fights, yet I find myself going against him for the first time in a while. Oliveira’s striking will keep him in the game, and his BJJ will secure the win.
