Here are the results of the Bellator 69 fight held on May 18, at the L’Auberge du Lac Casino and Resort in Lake Charles, LA:
Maiquel Jose Falcao Goncalves defeats Andreas Spang
Falcao put on a grappling clinic against Spang, keeping him on the ground for the majority of the fight (he had a lot of success with the rear waist lock), punishing him with a constant barrage of punches. A point was deducted from Falcao in the first round – for an illegal knee on a downed opponent, but the Brazilian MMA fighter did get enough done to earn the split decision. With the win, Falcao became the Bellator season-six middleweight tournament champion, and he’ll get to fight Alexander Shlemenko for the middleweight title.
Karl Amoussou defeats David Rickels
Amoussou got off to a good start at Bellator 69, but Rickels fought back in the third round, getting some serious ground-and-pound in. Unfortunately for Rickels, it was too little too late, as two of the judges gave Amoussou the nod. The crowd didn’t seem to like the decision, but I also had the fight scored 29-28 in favor of Amoussou.
Jessica Aguilar defeats Megumi Fujii
This was a very tough fight to score. Fuji was the more aggressive fighter throughout the entire fight, but Aguilar landed the more damaging blows in the latter rounds. I thought the cage-side judges got it right by awarding Aguilar with the 29-28 unanimous decision.
Mark Holata defeats Abe Wagner
Holata went right to work against Wagner, peppering him up with a few shot before taking him to the ground. He eventually decided to go for a straight ankle lock, while Wagner went for a heel hook. Holata sunk his submission in first though, forcing Wagner to verbally submit at the halfway point of the first round.
Josh Quayhagen defeats Cliff Wright (unanimous decision)
Shanon Slack defeats Booker Arthur (unanimous decision)
Andrey Koreshkov defeats Derrick Krantz (TKO, round three)
Richard Hale defeats Josh Burns (TKO, round one)
E.J. Brooks defeats Kalvin Hackney (unanimous decision)
