Rapper 50 cent.

When 50 Cent - real name Curtis Jackson - started off The Money Team Promotions with his close pal Floyd Mayweather, some in the boxing community didn't take the rapper seriously.

Golden Boy Promotions [GBP] founder, Oscar De La Hoya, took a few cheap shots at 50 cent after The Money Team Promotions was officially opened up for business, leaving GBP CEO Richard Schaefer with the task of smoothing things over between the two camps.

"I think it's terrific for 50 Cent to get involved in boxing, because he brings a different audience, the hip-hop world and so on, to this sport," Schaefer said during a conversation with BoxingScene.com. "I think it's terrific. I certainly wish him good luck. We know each other, we respect each other. I like him and he likes me...whenever we're together. I wish him good luck. This is great for boxing."

Schaefer's decision to smooth things over with 50 cent is certainly a wise move, considering the fact GBP will probably have to work with The Money Team in the future.

In only a week, TMT Promotions has already established itself as a serious force to be reckoned with, signing top prospects like Yuriorkis Gamboa and Andre Dirrell. According to rumors, TMT Promotions has also signed other boxers like Zab Judah, Celestino Caballero, and Andre Berto to their stable.

When one considers the fact that Mayweather will probably fight under TMT Promotions' banner as well, it's safe to say 50 Cent is taking his new business enterprise very seriously.

Given the fact boxing has been plagued by greedy promoters, who have played a big role in the sport's recent demise, it's nice to see some well-funded new blood coming in. 50 Cent is one of the most accomplished performers around right now, and he knows a thing or two about keeping crowds entertained.

I expect to see entertaining fight cards from TMT Promotions in the future, and that can only benefit boxing in the long-run.
